Sept 10th ‘Activists and Agitators: Stories of Lincolnshire Women who wanted to change the World.’ From the Chartist movement and winning the vote to the modern women’s movement, they laid the basis for the rights that we enjoy (and sometimes take for granted) today. Oct 8th ‘Nineteenth Century Lincolnshire Poachers’, Nicola Hallam. There was no welfare state in the nineteenth century, if you were poor you had to make do. Catching wildlife was fair game on common land until Enclosure Acts removed the commons and the landowners claimed ownership of the game too. Gamekeepers were often employed sometimes using force and guns. If caught, a poacher could be fined or imprisoned. If violence was involved it could lead to longer sentences or transportation.
